New Testament Assignment

How did the widow live what the Savior taught in Mark 12:28-30?

  • The widow, unlike the rich man, gave all that she had. She gave a mite, the only thing she could possibly give to the Savior, right? Wrong. This widow not only gave the physical money, she gave the Lord a symbol of her humility and willingness to submit to Him. She gave him a broken heart and a contrite spirit through performing this act. That is all the Savior wants from us. Our Savior was the last blood sacrifice, in Him the law of Moses was fulfilled; there was to be no more blood sacrifice, but the sacrifice of giving Him a broken heart and contrite spirit, and that's exactly what this widow did.
How much of what she had did she give?

  • "For all they did cast in of their aabundance; but she of herbwant did ccast in dall that she had, even all her living."  The widow gave all she possibly could, it wasn't much, but it was all she had. We are all familiar with the story of the child who saves up as much money as possible for a bike, they work SO hard for that money. When the time comes for the bike, the child does not have nearly enough, so the father makes up for the difference. This is what Christ does for us. Our Father makes up for our difference when we fall short. "It is by bgrace that we are saved, after all we cancdo." The part I'd like to focus on is the "after all we can do" part. She gave all she could, it was all she could do, and now Christ's grace is sufficient for her.
Write two or three sentences about what you could sacrifice other than money for the Lord.
  • I can sacrifice my time in preparing materials and lessons for my calling. Fulfilling your calling is one of the most important things
  • I can sacrifice my negative thoughts about others and learn to see the good in people. Gossiping is second nature, especially for a girl, so I'd like to sacrifice those thoughts in order to become closer to my savior.
  • I can sacrifice doing other activities on Sunday in order to do more Sabbath day worthy things.
